To reach Sassnitz ferry port by car, take the A19 from Berlin and exit at Rostock-Ost. Then head for Stralsund on the B105, finally follow the B96 to Sassnitz/Mukran on the island of Ruegen. Ruegen is an attractive island, and discovering the Island of Ruegen is said to be just like discovering Germany in one day.

About Sassnitz

Sassnitz is a town on the Jasmund peninsula, Rügen Island, in the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The population in 2004 was 10,920. Sassnitz ferry port is located on the ilse of Ruegen, on the eastern side.

It is a well-known resort town, and is a gateway to the nearby Jasmund National Park. Sassnitz is home to Rügen's only zoo. The decommissioned British submarine HMS Otus was purchased by a German entrepreneur and towed to Sassnitz to be a floating museum.

Sassnitz is twinned with the following towns:  Cuxhaven in Germany, Trelleborg in  Sweden and Kingisepp in Russia.
